Today, the walls were finished, with the exception of the door framing. It feels great to have most of a building erected, just one week after the fire. Most of my day was spent planning for the next few weeks, particularly strategizing our sales plan. The Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival is coming up, and WANO has been the flagship station of the Festival since the station signed on in 1957. We were initially worried that the station wouldn't be on the air for this year's festival, but now we know things will be up and running, and sounding better than ever. Of course, since the KMLF is so close, it's time to begin our sales effort so we can have a full slate of sponsors for our Festival broadcasts.

This evening, I sat down at the computer and started working on a new WANO logo. The one you see above is too plain, in my opinion, and doesn't capture the character of Pineville or WANO. I'll post what I've come up with below, and feel free to give me your opinion. Thanks to Angie Maiden who finally found the Mountain Laurel blossom for me. I searched high and low for a drawing, and she finally found one for me. Thanks, Angie!

Tomorrow, we start work on the roof of the new building, and work on the wiring and security system plans. We got more equipment in today, including all the components of our new remote control system, which will allow us to monitor and control the transmitting facilities from anywhere on earth via phone and internet. We chose a Sine Systems remote controller, and added on a temperature sensor. This is identical to the controller we have in place at WFXY, and it's an updated version of the controller in service at WANO before the fire. I've posted some pictures of our progress below, plus the new WANO logo. Let me know what you think!

Yours truly. The first decent picture of me in ages!

Thanks, Jack, for a great job with the masonry!

And we even have blocks left over.
